MS. TAY

Miss Tay Bee Choo graduated from Manchester, England with a B.A. (Hons) Law degree, is a member of Lincoln’s Inn and was called to the English Bar in 1983. In 1984, she was called to the Malaysian Bar. In 1993, she was also called to the Singapore Bar.

Miss Tay is now in her 38th year of practice.

After her initial 2 years practice as a legal assistant, Miss Tay together with Miss Kee Sze Ping set up the partnership practice of Sze-Ping & Tay in 1986. Upon the dissolution of Sze-Ping & Tay 1995, Miss Tay was a sole practitioner for about 3 years until joined by Mr. Henry Kang Fang Hawe as a partner under the practice of BC Tay & Kang.

For the first 12 years of her practice, Miss Tay was involved mainly in conveyancing and commercial work.

Civil litigation has in recent years featured more prominently in her practice.

Miss Tay is also a Certified Mediator registered since 2001 with the Mediation Centre, Bar Council, Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration. Currently, she is also exploring the avenue of mediation as an alternative process and solution to litigation and has had the benefit of successfully mediating under the auspices of the Mediation Centre, Bar Council. She was also sponsored by the Bar Council for training as a trainer and has been actively involved in conducting training and coaching in Mediation Skill Training Courses throughout the country also under the auspices of the Malaysia Bar Council.

Miss Tay had served as a member of the Johore Bar for 7 years – as Sub-Committee member from 1989 to 1991, and then as an elected member of the Committee from 1992 to 1996. Whilst as an elected Johore Bar Committee member, she was Chairperson of the Legal Aid Sub-Committee and the Education Sub-Committee.

Miss Tay had also been appointed and remains a member of Disciplinary Committee since 2004.
